KOHLER, Wis. (February 4, 2014) – Kallista, a leading designer and provider of luxury kitchen and bath plumbing products, introduced the Unlacquered Brass living finish as part of its line-up at the Design & Construction Week 2014 in Las Vegas. Newly making a comeback from its earlier popularity that dates back to Victorian times and again in the 1970s, Unlacquered Brass is a flexible alternative that provides warmth of color and extraordinary durability. Whether allowed to naturally patina over time or polished to restore its brilliance, the benefits and organic nature of brass is being sought out by many designers and consumers.

First used in Asia as far back as the 2nd Century B.C., this corrosion resistant, non-magnetic and low friction metal gained its earlier fame when it was selected in the 19th century for its ability to weather the elements. It was employed for many commercial installations, including streetlamps, subway entrances, and the as the protective layer on hulls of ships. In the 1970s, brass was sought out to embellish many modern interiors. The brass was typically lacquered brass and buffed lending warmth and reflection within a room. Brass took a back seat in the 1980s with the advent of chrome.

Beyond being a trés chic alternative, it is the lasting quality of brass that makes this an important new finish at Kallista. Its resurgence takes on an altogether modern approach by keeping it in its natural state. Kallista has selected two of its most successful collections – One and Bellis – be available in Unlacquered Brass. This custom finish is currently available in North America.
