Acclaimed designer’s inimitable style, translated into a vanity with matching faucets and accessories, brings a refreshing, contemporary look to Kallista’s sophisticated designer offering

“Attaining a harmonious balance of color, texture and proportion is the objective that guides all of my work,” says Laura Kirar.

This fundamental design philosophy is clearly and beautifully reflected in Kirar’s newest creation – Vir Stil – a decorative plumbing collection for Kallista, a leading manufacturer of grand luxury plumbing products. This venture into the design of plumbing products is a first for the celebrated and versatile young designer, while Kallista continues expanding its high-profile designer collections that already include revered talents like Michael S Smith and Barbara Barry. Laura Kirar is the creative director of her own multi-disciplinary design firm TRU, based in New York City.

The modern forms and clean lines of the new Laura Kirar Vir Stil Collection for Kallista present an interesting contrast to the existing, more traditional Kallista offering, appealing to a large part of the community of designers and consumers who lean towards a minimal but refined design style. The inspiration for this new collection references a variety of historical time periods from the Bauhaus to the Danish Modern and even Japanese design. “I draw inspiration from the many design styles that I have been interested in over the years. From this research I often extract the essence of particular details and use them in my pieces. The result is a unique collection, having modern yet classic forms paired with unexpected detail,” says Kirar.

The Laura Kirar Vir Stil Collection for Kallista consists of a vanity/basin combination, two lavatory faucet models as well as decorative bath accessories. Striving for authenticity and comfort, the selection of materials was a crucial step in the creation of both the vanity and the faucets. The selected colors and textures combined with the subtle details create a serene space with quiet proportions, evoking a sense of age and comfort that will evolve over time. Kirar adds, “It is my hope that the simple elegance of the collection reveals itself over time. The person living with the pieces will discover subtle details the longer he or she lives with it.”

The straight, angular lines of the wood vanity, asymmetrically divided into a larger cabinet to the left and three stacked drawers to the right, are softened by the distinct pattern of the grain of the walnut finish. The countertop is made of grey limestone, called “Grigio”, creating an attractive contrast to the texture and the warmth of the rich walnut. A surprising detail reminiscent of the Bauhaus style is incorporated in drawers that swivel toward the body. Adding further interest and functionality, the basin is not located in the vanity’s center but shifted to the left-hand side of the slab, allowing for more countertop space. The vanity rests on four metal legs, two of which are joined in a geometric tube design. Creating the final touch to the harmonious balance that is the signature of Kirar’s work, the style and finish of the metal base are designed to coordinate with the faucet and the circular grommet drawer pulls.

Basin sets
The substantial look and clean yet smoothly rounded profile of the basin set is a perfect match to the modern and elegantly refined features of the vanity. Illustrating similar attention to detail, the surface of the faucet boasts two textures.

The spout and handles have an uninterrupted, smooth surface, while their bases have a markedly ribbed texture. Two handle styles, lever and cross, are available in four different finishes, including Nickel Silver, Brushed Nickel, Chrome and a signature dark bronze finish. The new bronze finish is a living finish that was created for this collection. The patina of the finish will change over time to create the look of antique hardware and keep adding interest to the collection.

Decorative Bath Accessories
Facilitating the selection process for professionals and consumers, the Laura Kirar Vir Stil Collection for Kallista offers coordinating accessories with the same design lines that distinguish the faucet collection. Initially a mirror and coordinating sconces, 12- and 24-inch towel bars and a tissue holder are available, but the growing collection will soon include a full-line faucet product selection as well as additional decorative bath accessories.
