Kallista, a leading provider of luxury plumbing products, unveiled the Jeton Collection designed by internationally renowned architect, and interior designer, Bill Sofield, at the 2009 Kitchen/Bath Industry Show in Atlanta.  Sofield, known for his residential, commercial and furniture designs rich in presence and universal appeal, was inspired by such diverse influences as the classicism of early 20th century architecture, Eileen Gray and the haute couture of fashion icon Yves St. Laurent when developing the Jeton Collection.  Reflecting chic sensibility and sophisticated presence of line, the collection complements traditional and contemporary interiors.

Representing Sofield’s first commercial plumbing line, the Jeton Collection is a complete bath suite that offers multiple components for a wide range of installations.  The collection includes a vanity with choice of two marble tops, wall- and deck-mounted basin sets and bath sets, thermostatic and pressure balance showering systems, wall and deck-mounted handshowers, showerhead, undercounter basin, sconce, towel bar, towel ring, hook, and toilet paper holder.  A vitreous basin with new state-of-the-art low-profile overflow concept, second sconce design, a mirror, and mirrored medicine cabinet are slated for introduction in fall of 2009.

“Bill brought an intellectual grounding to the process and presented Kallista with exceptional creative ideas in a way that immediately connected with the Kallista design and engineering teams,” said John Hart, chief creative officer, Kohler Interiors.  “The eye for materials and details he has honed in his remarkable design career were put to good use on this collection.  Bill possesses the ability to design beautiful objects that are compelling by themselves as well as within the context of tasteful interiors.”

Sofield incorporated aesthetic appeal with straightforward practicality giving the collection meaning and substance.  “Drawing inspiration from a broad range of design elements, I wanted strong, timeless geometry that would work in modern and historic environments and remain compelling 20 years from now,” said Sofield.  “Plumbing is a substantial investment, and needs to maintain its beauty and design integrity over the years.”

There is subtle juxtaposition within the designs, mixing simple form with complex detail and resonating with underlying warmth and familiarity.  “To put it quite literally, I married hard with soft, straightforward with complex” continued Sofield.  “The multi-faceted faucet and handle design was approached much the way that jewelry is cut in order to achieve maximum reflection, eliminating the need for overt ornamentation.  The octagonal sink’s faceted interior stands in contrast to the console, which emanates a quiet beauty with its figured wood veneer, creamy lacquer, gentle, rounded edges, and softly honed marble tops.

Thoughtful in design and scope, the Jeton Collection offers a wide range of options to personalize a space.  “Sofield brings to his collection a unique and custom approach with a distinctive design aesthetic by incorporating smooth sides with rounded corners, crisp facets and smart edges,” said Chris Baldwin, general manager, Kallista.  “Launching a complete faucet collection encourages customization of the luxury bathroom.  Offering both deck- and wall-mount options for the basin and bath faucets, allows the customers to choose the placement of each.”

The Jeton Collection boasts faucets with lever and t-shaped handle options.  The basin sets are equipped with a 1.5 gpm laminar flow aerator instead of the higher industry standard 2.2 aerator, making it an ecologically considerate choice.  Kallista utilizes the finest valves in all its faucets to ensure years of maintenance-free use.  Featuring diamond-hard, ceramic discs instead of conventional seat washers assure that the installation will be leak-free even in the hardest water conditions.

The handshower features sprayface nozzles that resist hard water build-up and are easy to clean, while the handle is fitted with an internal water channel to prevent it from overheating during use.  The toilet paper holder has an innovative rotating arm instead of the standard spring loaded tube allowing the arm to pivot up to 90 degrees in rotation for easy replacement of the roll.

Continuing the collection’s quiet and rarified luxury is a sophisticated vanity, expertly handcrafted in exacting detail.  Sofield selected two different, selectively high-grade marbles for the tops and sides: Statuary White, a classic white Italian marble with graphic dark gray veining, and Nero Marquina, a soft black Spanish marble veined in stark white.  Incorporating best-in-class aesthetics, the marble top is grooved with slightly raised sides to keep water from escaping and surrounds a unique, octagon-shaped undercounter basin that incorporates a faceted interior detail.  The marble top cascades down to form the sides and plinth style legs.  The cabinet is executed from maple solids and offered in two versions, inlaid with highly figured macassar ebony veneer, or painted in creamy Blanche Lacquer, its glossy, variant shading achieved by hand applying three coats of lacquer.  The cabinet is slightly inset from the marble frame with six functioning areas for storage.  A centered, recessed cabinet is fitted with a solid brass, 16-inch towel bar, with three surrounding upper drawers and two flanking doors creating ample storage.

In true Sofield fashion, the vanity is incorporated with thoughtful details to ensure it remains beautiful for years to come, including an application of clear polyurethane coating for moisture resistance, soft close outer drawers to deter abrupt closing, fine cabinetry European door hinges, and a solid brass kickplate at the base to deflect everyday wear.  The hardware is hand-cast, inset brass pulls.  The faucetry and accessories are offered in Chrome, Nickel Silver, Brushed Nickel, and Black Nickel, and is also available in Matte Gold by special order.

Completing the collection is a new Black Nickel finish.  This unique finish has a black-to-silver mirrored effect, the deep black broken by a metallic shimmer creating a compelling play of shadow and light.  The introduction of Black Nickel brings seven hand-crafted living finishes to the existing Kallista offering.  Designed to patina over time, the living finishes are meant to wear naturally providing each piece with its own unique warmth and character.
