Kallista, a leading provider of decorative plumbing products, presented new pieces to its Counterpoint collection by internationally renowned, multi-disciplined designer, Barbara Barry, at the 2011 Kitchen and Bath Industry Show in Las Vegas. Inspired by the elegance and simplicity of modern design, Counterpoint reflects Barry’s signature chic sensibility and sophisticated presence of line.

Representing Barry’s fourth commercial plumbing line for Kallista, Counterpoint offers multiple products for a wide range of installations. A new vanity and mirrored sconce join the 2010 introductions that included a console table; basin sets; deck-mounted bath set; lighted medicine cabinet; thermostatic valve, volume control valve and three-way transfer valve trim; wall-mounted hand shower; showerhead; rock crystal sconce, 24-inch towel bar; hook; and toilet paper holder.

“Counterpoint is meant to capture the minimal elegance of 1930s bath design,” said Barry. “I am always interested in creating a mood for a room. I believe we’ve achieved this with Counterpoint… simple, yet sensual, evoking a modernism with beautiful details. Fixtures that hit the sweet spot between cold modern and stuffy traditional with a warm sensibility that delivers a lot of style in an understated way.”

The centerpiece of the collection is a vanity expertly crafted from hardwood solids and veneers, its proportionate form thoughtfully scaled to stand alone or be paired. The cabinet features a choice of a wood-finished front or in a delicate Starburst motif inlay, and is fitted with a hand-carved scroll pull. When opened, the cabinet exposes a functional shelf and drawer for discreet storage. The vanity top is cut from a single block of softly honed marble fashioned with an integral back splash in a seamless design. Two marbles were selected for the collection: Statuary White, a pure white marble veined in grey, or Crema Marfil, a warm cream with delicate, neutral toned veining.

The vanity is offered in two new wood finishes: deep Ebonized Mahogany or the warmer tones of Brunette, which is exclusive to the collection. Both finishes are hand-applied and rubbed to bring out the fine walnut veneer figuring and to exact its softly honed finish.

“As an American designer, I feel free to invent forms that create their own context for modern living,” continued Barry. “I strive to design objects and forms that create a melody of rhythm and balance. This is at the heart of Counterpoint.”

A sophisticated sconce rounds out the collection. Made from solid brass construction, the sconce is fitted with a hand-blown glass shade that incorporates a reeded design, one of Barry’s signature motifs. The shade is secured to a mirrored backplate that sports a simple beveled edge, the shade’s creamy coloration and backplate’s reflective qualities providing soft ambient light.

“I design what I want for myself,” concluded Barry. “The Counterpoint Collection is designed to work with various components in an easy and seamless way. The collection is made up of pieces that are elegant and restrained, creating a relaxed but sophisticated mood. Whether in the hands of professional interior designers or consumers, Counterpoint will make spaces feel timeless and enduring.”
