BARBARA BARRY REDEFINES THE BATH FOR TODAY'S MAN AND WOMAN
Designed by Barbara Barry, Kallista extends its sought-after line with the introduction of new pieces that truly redefine the bathroom and dressing room for today's man and woman.
Kallista, a leader in luxury and decorative plumbing design, unveiled its Barbara Barry Collection to wide acclaim in spring of 1998. The designs that have been praised for their pure lines, exquisite beauty and versatility can now be found on products for the entire bath.
Characterized by its classic elegance, the Barbara Barry Collection relies on the famed designer's hallmarks of clean lines, refined silhouettes and time-honored materials. Like the initial offering of faucets, fixtures and cabinetry, additions to the collection recall an earlier, more graceful era, yet with a nod to modern sensibility.
Central to the new designs is Barry's philosophy that a powder room or bathroom is just that -- a room. To complete the interior design of the room, Barry and Kallista have once again turned to Baker Furniture to create exquisite mahogany cabinetry in a rich Java finish that incorporates Barry's own fixture and faucet creations.
Designs "for her" include a dramatic dressing table and an elegant étagère. Inspired by glamorous dressing tables from the 1930s, the design features a center seating area flanked by two side cabinets. The ample make-up counter offers a dramatic oval, tabletop mirror, while the supporting side cabinets have a slight radius and terminate in splayed legs. In addition to generous storage space, the cabinet features a petite basin in Linen or Stucco made distinct by its X-form bowl -- Barry's signature.
A diminutive, pillar tap faucet is available in Brushed Nickel and Nickel Silver. Optional Baccarat drawer pulls complete the look of this unforgettable piece.
Also superbly hand crafted is the mahogany étagère with five shelves and a lower drawer, ideal for towels, candles, perfume or other toiletries. Its sleek, towering form and saber legs offer a pleasing silhouette.
Designed "for him" is a handsome dressing table. This cabinet features raised ribbing along the front apron, hidden drawers, a lower shelf and metal accents at the base. The top offers plenty of space for toiletries, as well as a generous, square basin with a distinct X-form bowl available in Linen or Stucco. The basin set features a pair of clean, edited lever handles available in Brushed Nickel, Nickel Silver or Chrome.
This dressing table can be combined with the collection's existing rectangular mirror or a new rectangular medicine cabinet offering glass shelves and a mirrored back inside.
Also for him is a men's dresser. Hand crafted of rich mahogany, this pleasing, seven-drawer design features a hidden, side, pull-out surface, convenient for a watch, eye glasses or cuff links. Not to be overlooked is the optional square mirror designed to sit atop the dresser.
A five-foot whirlpool bathtub allows the elegance of Kallista's Barbara Barry Collection to be carried over to the bathing area. The rectangular, cast-iron tub is available in a System III whirlpool which features four adjustable flexjets, a two-horsepower flow pump, an integral heater, and a variable-flow electronic switch. An optional mahogany tub surround with raised-ribbing has been designed with four sides for a dramatic, island installation. To complement this inventive design, a new deck-mount bath set features square, tapered faucet and handles. The deck set is available in Nickel Silver or Brushed Nickel, as is a new shower set which features a similar, tapered wall spout; an oval-shaped, pressure-balance valve; and a square, tapered showerhead.
The bathroom suite is made complete by the addition of a two-piece toilet. Manufactured in England to Kallista's specifications and hand-sprayed with several coats of the finest quality glaze, this 1.6 gallon toilet pairs exceptional design with high performance. The toilet is available in Stucco or Linen and comes with a mahogany seat. The trip lever may be upgraded to match the tapered lever handles of the basin and bath sets.
To complement the collection, Barbara Barry has designed a sleek, tapered Boyd table lamp in either Brushed Nickel or Nickel Silver. Also part of Kallista's Barbara Barry Collection are an assortment of Baccarat crystal table accessories such as an exquisite table lamp, bowl, dish, ashtray, brush holder, tumbler and clock.
Finally, Kallista announces that a new chrome finish will be offered on several items from the Barbara Barry Collection including the vanity basin set, towel bar, toilet tissue holder and the towel/robe hook.
"Barbara has once again created instant classics with this expanded bathroom collection," says Christopher Lohmann, general manager-Kallista. "By combining her reverence for the past with an acute sense of modern design function, she has designed a truly timeless line of products for the bath."
